Portugal celebrates French cinema

UniFrance Films renews its support for the リスボン フランス映画祭, which is holding its 14th edition in Portugal from October 10 through November 10, 2013.

From October 10 through November 10, the リスボン フランス映画祭 will liven up 7 Portuguese cities with the latest offerings from French cinema.

The close connection between France and Portugal has been given a particular resonance this year with the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Friendship Treaty between Paris and Lisbon. To coincide with this event, a special program of films entitled "Paris at the Cinema" will be launched with the presentation of ハッピーエンド by Agnès Jaoui, who will take over from Maria De Medeiros as patron of the festival. Agnès Jaoui will present a selection of films that have marked her career as an actress. To close this program, Ms. Jaoui will perform with one of Portugal's most acclaimed fado singers at a concert held on October 17, which is the anniversary of the signing of the Friendship Treaty.

In addition to preview screenings of around twenty films, the festival's 14th edition also presents a number of tributes. One of these is dedicated to Claude Lanzmann, with the Portuguese National Cinémathèque organizing its first retrospective of the work of this French filmmaker, with Lanzmann in attendance.

Another tribute will honor the work of Michel Ocelot as part of a program of animated films.

The Lisbon French Film Festival, which is attended by members of the Portuguese movie sector, presented Camille Rewinds as opening film at the Sao Jorge Cinema, in the presence of the film's director and lead actress Noémie Lvovsky.

Last year's festival launched the career of Paulette in Portugal, which registered 70,000 admissions (matching the score of The Artist in Portugal in 2012).

This year's リスボン フランス映画祭 also gives us an opportunity to hail the exceptional performance of The Gilded Cage by Ruben Alves in Portugal at this time. This film ranks as the most successful French film ever monitored by UniFrance Films in this market, currently tallying a total of over 600,000 admissions.
