Venice International Film Festival awards

Romain Paul, the young star of The Last Hammer Blow, and Laurent Cantet, director of Return to Ithaca, were honored with awards at the 71st edition of the festival.

This year's Venice International Film Festival jury, led by the French composer Alexandre Desplat, announced the award winners at a ceremony held Saturday evening, September 6, 2014.

The Golden Lion was presented to the Swedish director Roy Andersson for his film A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence, a minority French co-production (Société Parisienne de Production - Coproduction Office).

The Marcello Mastroianni Prize, which honors a young actor or actress, was awarded to Romain Paul (photo), the hero of The Last Hammer Blow by Alix Delaporte, in which he stars alongside Clotilde Hesme and Grégory Gadebois.

The Special Orizzonti Prize for Best Actor was given to Emir Hadzihafizbegovic for his performance in These Are the Rules by Ognjen Svilicic, a minority French co-production (KinoElektron).

And finally, in the Venice Days, Return to Ithaca by Laurent Cantet picked by the Venice Days Award.
