Bertrand Tavernier honored at the Venice Film Festival
The Board of Directors at the Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta, have selected Bertrand Tavernier to be the recipient of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement Award of the 72nd Venice International Film Festival.
"Tavernier is a complete, instinctively non-conformist, staunchly eclectic auteur," Alberto Barbera, Director of the Venice Film Festival, says in his recommendation to Paolo Baratta. "His filmography as a whole constitutes a body of work that is in part incongruous within the context of French cinema over the past forty years. […] The importance that Tavernier attributes to filmmaking as a craft merges with two other components: his love for classic American films, whose ability to entertain he has assimilated without renouncing an expressive dimension, and his innate passion for political and social themes, which makes his films so remarkably personal and original.”
Bertrand Tavernier received the Pasinetti Prize at the Venice Film Festival in 1986, for ラウンド・ミッドナイト. He will receive his second prestigious award at this event during its next edition, which will take place in September 2015.
