France shines bright at Annecy Film Festival awards
With five short films winning awards, France has put in an excellent performance at this year's Annecy International Animation Film Festival (held June 12 through 17, 2016). Reflecting a great diversity of styles, these aawards bear witness to the excellent state of health of the French animated film sector, which is currently achieving strong results at the international box office.
The MIFA (International Film Market at the Annecy Animation Film Festival) also provided an opportunity to present the new Blu-Ray release produced by UniFrance to representatives from international institutions and festival programmers. This Blu-Ray release offers a compilation of 12 French short films (including Ghost Cell, 5 mètres 80, Mr Hublot) presented in 3D. Produced thanks to the participation of TitraFilm, this promotional tool aims to shine a spotlight on French artistic and technical savoir faire in the field of 3D filmmaking.
And finally, the festival also made it possible for the teams at UniFrance to invite around sixty industry professionals to our customary annual Networking Breakfast event. Organized in association with the Film Fund Luxembourg, Swiss Films, and Wallonie-Bruxelles Images (WBI), this event brought together producers, institutional representatives, prestigious film directors—such as Claude Barras (My Life as a Courgette) and Laurent Witz (Mr Hublot)—broadcasters (Arte, Canal+, HTV), distributors (including Autour de Minuit, Sève Films), and programmers from major film festivals (such as Animatou, TIFF, Fantoche).
