Around the World: November 15, 2016

Keep up to date with UniFrance on trips made by French actors and directors as they accompany their films around the world (for commercial releases, retrospectives, master classes, festivals, preview screenings, and more) in our bi-monthly bulletin.

Festivals

Catherine Deneuve and Régis Wargnier were in attendance at the Hanoi Film Festival (November 1-5) to present インドシナ, which is now being released in Vietnam 25 years after it was shot there. Deneuve then traveled to ミャンマー for a presentation of シェルブールの雨傘 at the Memory Festival (November 4-13), which also welcomed the presence of Michel Hazanavicius, Pascale Ferran, and Davy Chou.
Also in Asia, the 1st French Cinema Tour in 大韓民国 is currently underway (November 10-23), a new event co-organized by UniFrance and the Ambassade de France in Seoul. Danièle Thompson, Marthe Villalonga, Pascale Pouzadoux, Lou Roy-Lecollin, Thomas Bidegain, and Christian Desmares made the trip to South Korea to take part in the event.

The Cinémania Festival in Montreal (November 3-13) was also an occasion for French artists to make their presence felt, with Delphine and Muriel Coulin, Virginie Efira, Nicole Garcia (guest of honor), Thomas Lilti, Raphaël Personnaz, Philippe Lioret, and Soko Soko in attendance.
The Seville European Festival (November 4-12) invited Vincent Lindon, Olivier Assayas, Axelle Ropert, Caroline Deruas, Eugène Green, and Judith Chemla as guest at the event.

At the Tübingen Film Festival (November 2-9), the focus was on new-generation French cinema, with the presence of Maud Alpi, Daouda Coulibaly, Sacha Wolff, and Wissam Charaf, alongside veteran directors, including Bruno Dumont and Dominik Moll (photo).

Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau were in Buenos Aires from November 1 through 6 for a presentation of their film Paris 05:59 at the Asterico LGBT Film Festival, followed by a Q&A session.

Laurent Teyssier, director of Toril, and Morgan Simon, director of A Taste of Ink, traveled to the Braunschweig International Film Festival in ドイツ (November 7-13), and then to the Zagreb Film Festival in クロアチア (November 12-20). In Japan, Davy Chou and his lead actor Sobon Nuon (photo) were on hand to present Diamond Island at the Tokyo International Film Festival (October 30-November 3).

A number of artists also traveled solo in this period, with Lucile Hadzihalilovic present in ルーマニア to introduce the films Innocence / エコール and Evolution at the 20th Bucharest French Film Festival, and to give a master class at the Film Department at the School of Cinema. The Institut Français in Algiers received a visit from Alexandre Heboyan, who presented his film Mune on November 15, while Rayhana accompanied the presentation of I Still Hide To Smoke, which was premiered at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival (November 3-13) after which she will travel to the Black Nights Film Festival in Tallinn, エストニア (November 11-27). Rabah Ameur-Zaïmèche was in the アメリカ合衆国 from November 1through 7 to present Story of Judas at universities and Alliance Française centers in a number of American cities as part of the Young French Cinema Program, and also took part in the Saint Louis Film Festival (November 3-13).

Commercial Releases

Among artists accompanying French films released abroad, Katell Quillévéré was in ベルギー for two days of media interviews and preview screenings of Heal the Living on November 7 and 8. From November 8 through 10, Otar Iosseliani was in Tokyo to promote his film Winter Song, which will be released in 日本 on December 17. Jérôme Commandeur traveled to スイス on November 4 and 5 to promote My Family Already Adores You, while Thomas Bidegain made the trip to シンガポール (November 8-12) to take part in publicity for his film Cowboys and Jacques Perrin was on the other side of the world in the アメリカ合衆国 until November 6 for the US release of Saisons (photo).

Soko Soko traveled to ギリシャ to participate in the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and to accompany the release of The Dancer. François Ozon went to スウェーデン for the release of Frantz, and as a guest at the Stockholm International Film Festival, where he was presented with the Stockholm Visionary Award (photo). And finally, Jean-Pierre Léaud is currently in Madrid, followed by Barcelona, to promote The Death of Louis XIV.
