Isabelle Huppert nominated for Best Actress Award at the Oscars

... and an additional six nominations announced for French films at the upcoming 89th オスカー , to be held February 26 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

With an impressive list of awards to her credit this season, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her riveting portrayal of a rape victim in Paul Verhoeven's film Elle, Isabelle Huppert has now, for the first time in her career, received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. Previous French nominees in this category include Marion Cotillard for Two Days, One Night (2014) and Emmanuelle Riva for Amour (2012). The most recent French actress to have won this award for her performance in a French film is Marion Cotillard, for エディット•ピアフ〜愛の讃歌〜 in 2007.

This year, France is represented in a total of seven Oscar nominations: one nomination in the Best Foreign-Language Film category for The Salesman by Asghar Farhadi; two in the Best Animated Feature Film category for The Red Turtle by Michael Dudok de wit (majority-French co-production) and My Life as a Courgette by Claude Barras (minority-French co-production); and two in the Best Documentary Feature category for I Am Not Your Negro by Raoul Peck (majority French co-production) and Fire at Sea by Gianfranco Rosi (minority French co-production).

And finally, Enemies Within by Sélim Azzazi will be vying for an Oscar in the Best Live Action Short Film category.
