"Rois et Reine" picks up the 2004 Louis Delluc Prize

The 62nd Louis Delluc Prize for Best French Film of the Year was awarded to "Rois et Reine" by Arnaud Desplechin on Friday, December 17.

The recently inaugurated Louis Delluc Prize for Best First Film was given to "Quand la mer monte" by Yolande Moreau and Gilles Porte, which had also been honored this summer with the Grand Audience Prize at the International Film Meetings in Paris.

Four other films were in the running for the top Louis Delluc Prize this year: "Clean" by Olivier Assayas, "L' Esquive" by Abdellatif Kechiche, " S21: The Khmer Rouge Death Machine" by Rithy Panh and "Les temps qui changent" by André Téchiné.

There were also four other contenders for the Louis Delluc Prize for Best First Film: "A Common Thread" by Eléonore Faucher, "Demi-tarif" by Isild Le Besco, "Back to Kotelnitch" by Emmanuel Carrère and "Work Hard, Play Hard" by Jean-Marc Moutout.

The Louis Delluc Prize was created in 1937 in tribute to the filmmaker and writer, Louis Delluc. This movie industry equivalent of the Goncourt awards was presented by a jury of critics led by Gilles Jacob, President of the Cannes International Film Festival. The selection features French films released during the calendar year.
