"The Role of Her Life" and "Red Lights" prizewinners at the 7th Stockholm French Film Festival

After a successful five weeks of screenings since May 6, the 7th Stockholm French Film Festival closed its doors June 9.
The TV5 Audience Prize was awarded to "The Role of Her Life" by François Favrat, and the Swedish high school students' jury honored "Red Lights" by Cédric Kahn with the "Francophile Youth Prize."

This French Film Festival is an independent event organized by the Sture Cinema, Stockholm's leading arthouse theater, along with the distributor Triangelfilm and the producer dfm fiktion, and with support from the French Embassy in Sweden, TV5, Air France, Unifrance and numerous other partners.

The main selection included the following films, presented for the first time or in preview screenings: "Aaltra" by Benoît Delépine and Gustave Kevern (distributed by Noble Entertainment), "Kings and Queen" by Arnaud Desplechin, "Changing Times" by André Téchiné, "The Role of Her Life" by François Favrat, "Red Lights" by Cédric Kahn, "La Petite Chartreuse" by Jean-Pierre Denis, "The Ex-Love of My Life" by Josiane Balasko, "Gilles' Wife" by Frédéric Fonteyne and "Me and My Sister" by Alexandra Leclère.

Several evenings devoted to specific themes also made it possible to present as yet unreleased films in Sweden: a "Canada Evening" featured the Quebec film "Memories Unlocked" by Jean Beaudin; a "Cannes Evening" featured "Tropical Malady" by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, a "Fassbinder Evening" featured "Water Drops on Burning Rocks" by François Ozon; and an evening was dedicated to medium-length films, with Carte Blanche given to the production company Les Films de la Grande Ourse, and featuring "Blonde et brune" by Christine Dory.

Each year, the festival offers a selection of short films, in collaboration with Unifrance. This year particularly highlighted up-and-coming filmmakers and co-productions, with the presentation of two medium-length films co-produced by France and Sweden, in the presence of their crews: "Les Courants" by Sofia Norlin and "On prend pas la mer quand on la connaît pas" by Anna Novion.

And finally, the festival program is traditionally completed by two French films distributed commercially at the Sture Cinema during the event. This year, they were "My Father is an Engineer" by Robert Guédiguian and "Our Music" by Jean-Luc Godard (distributed by Triangelfilm), as well as re-screenings of films released in Sweden in recent months.

This year's Stockholm French Film Festival attracted unprecedented crowds, with attendance figures up by over 50%, a testament to the event's well-established position in Swedish cultural life. The festival also collaborated for the first time with the Swedish Cinematheque, which adopted the festival program throughout the month of May.
