”The Pianist” - fortissimo!
Given the latest results for “The Pianist,” the film’s performance is by no means over!
After its Palme d’Or triumph at Cannes, a string of Cesar awards and three Oscars to its credit, the film’s track record certainly provides impetus on the international circuit. In the United States as well as in six European territories, “The Pianist” attracted more than 1.6 million spectators, and raked in €11 million at the box office to February, 2003. The film has also had an exceptional launch in Japan, with 227 prints released by Amuse Pictures, pulling in over 200,000 spectators after just two days on the screens, garnering the equivalent of €2.14 million. In the United States, the film has crossed the 3 million admissions threshold, with more than 750 prints in circulation.
Finally, “The Pianist” is also riding high in Brazil and Argentina. The film’s distributor, Europa Filmes, who released 115 prints of the film in Brazil February 28, has totaled 450,000 admissions after 4 weeks. In Argentina, where 14 prints of the film were released by Alfa Films March 6, “The Pianist” has already drawn over 115,000 spectators.
