Sweden: The 7th French Film Season

From February 5 through May 8, 2007, the 7th French Film Season will present 18 French productions at the Zita cinema in Stockholm and at the Grand Teatret cinema in Copenhagen: 6 in preview screenings, and 12 on their first run release.

Like previous Film Seasons, this seventh edition has been organized and programed by the French Embassy in Sweden, in consultation with the French Embassy in Denmark, and in partnership with two screens of the Europa Cinema theater network, along with French exporters and Scandinavian distributors. Unifrance and TV5Monde are also partners in the event.

Spectators will have the opportunity to discover in preview screenings: Flandres (Flanders) by Bruno Dumont, La Môme (La Vie en Rose) by Olivier Dahan, Le Passager (The Passenger) by Eric Caravaca, Indigènes (Days of Glory) by Rachid Bouchareb, Paris, je t’aime, and La Tourneuse de pages (The Page Turner) by Denis Dercourt.

And in their first run: Bamako by Abderrahmane Sissako, Belle toujours by Manoel de Oliveira, Changement d’adresse by Emmanuel Mouret, Dans Paris (Inside Paris) by Christophe Honoré, La Fille du juge by William Karel, Le Grand Appartement by Pascal Thomas, Il était une fois dans l’Oued (Once Upon a Time in the Oued) by Djamel Bensalah, L’Intouchable (The Untouchable) by Benoît Jacquot, Le Journal d’un suicide (Diary of a Suicide) by Stanislav Stanojevic, Le Pressentiment (Premonition) by Jean-Pierre Darroussin, Quand j’étais chanteur (The Singer) by Xavier Giannoli, and Le Voyage en Arménie (Armenia) by Robert Guédiguian.
The previous French Film Season, having benefited from weekly press coverage, as well as publicity through the universities and Scandinavian distributors, showed to packed houses in Stockholm and Copenhagen in 2006. A number of titles secured release in Scandinavia as a result.

Scandinavian distributors now consider the French Film Seasons as a barometer for audience reactions to films, and use the event as a launching platform for French films presented in preview screenings. The French Film Seasons are not a festival as such, but rather a program of films serving as a base notably for Scandinavian distributors of French films, from September through May each year.
