French films sweep up at the 2010 European Film Awards

The Ghost Writer was the big winner at this year's 23rd European Film Awards. Sylvie Testud and the films Carlos and The Illusionnist were also honored at the event.

Ghost Writer by Roman Polanski picked up six awards, including top honors, at the European Film Awards ceremony held last Saturday in Tallinn, Estonia: Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor for Ewan McGregor, Best Production Design, and Best Composer.

The Best Actress award went to the French actress Sylvie Testud for her role in Lourdes by the Austrian director Jessica Haulsner.

Carlos by Olivier Assayas was not left out in the cold, with its editors Luc Barnier and Marion Monnier honored, while another French production, L' Illusionniste by Sylvain Chomet, was voted Best Animated Feature Film.

French films dominated the awards night, with Lebanon awarded the prize for Best Cinematography and Nostalgia for the Light named Best Documentary.
