The Franco-German Film Meetings and the Berlin French Film Week

The 10th Franco-German Film Meetings and the French Film Week will be held in Berlin from November 28 through December 5, 2012.

The 10th Franco-German Film Meetings will be held November 28 and 29 at the Humboldt-Carré in Berlin. This annual meeting aimed at stimulating dialogue between French and German movie industry professionals is organized by the Franco-German Film Meetings Association in collaboration with uniFrance Films and German Films.

Over 300 participants are expected to attend these conferences and the co-production market held as a sidebar. Subjects of discussion will include the latest measures adopted by professionals and government authorities in the sectors of film production and distribution in both countries.
The following themes will be discussed at the conferences: the European Commission's draft communication, cinema education in France and Germany, the role of television in film financing, new distribution channels, and the latest developments relating to copyright.
22 French and German projects have been selected for presentation at the co-production market. Producers will also have the opportunity to present their projects in greater detail at individual meetings.
French culture and communication minister Aurélie Filippetti and her German counterpart Bernd Neumann will attend an opening dinner reception.
Founded at the same time as the Franco-German Film Meetings, the Ludwigsburg-Paris Workshop, which is a Franco-German training scheme offered to European producers and distributors, will also celebrate its 10th anniversary this year.
Franco-German Film Meetings will be held within the framework of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty.

These two days of debates will close with a screening of the film Populaire by Régis Roinsard, held in the presence of the director and actors Déborah François and Mélanie Bernier as part of the opening ceremony of the 2012 Berlin French Film Week.

This festival jointly hosted by uniFrance Films will showcase some 30 films, including a dozen titles presented in preview screenings and a section entitled "Paris" featuring 8 films, including three titles from Quebec, Belgium and Switzerland. The line-up includes both films offered by German distributors, who take advantage of the festival as a launching pad in the lead-up to their films' commercial release, and the most recent French productions in search of a buyer. An average of 7,000 spectators follow the event each year.
It is worth noting that The Intouchables was screened as opening film at the 2011 Berlin French Film Week, at one of the film's very first international screenings before going on to achieve unprecedented success in German theaters, where it registered 8.8 million admissions.
All Together by Stéphane Robelin was also discovered at last year's event, and since then has attracted 400,000 spectators in Germany.
