London and Toronto critics are also under the spell of French cinema

One week after the announcement of the Golden Globe nominations, Love and Rust & Bone continue to charm British and North American critics, as does Holy Motors.

Amour by Michael Haneke has dominated nominations from the London Critics' Circle, selected in the categories of Best Film, Best Foreign Film, Best Director, Best Actor for Jean-Louis Trintignant, Best Actress for Emmanuelle Riva, and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Isabelle Huppert.

君と歩く世界 by Jacques Audiard, which won the Grand Prize at the London International Film Festival in October, scooped up three nominations, in the Best Actress category for Marion Cotillard and for the Technical Achievement Award for Alexandre Desplat.

In other news, Holy Motors by Leos Carax, which has received rave reviews since its presentation at Cannes earlier in the year, has been nominated in Best Foreign Film category and for the Technical Achievement Award.

In English-speaking Canada, the Toronto Film Critics' Association presented its annual awards last night.AmourAmour was voted Best Foreign Film and was one of three finalists in the Best Film of the Year category, as well as picking up Best Actress honors for Emmanuelle Riva. Denis Lavant received the award for Best Actor of the Year for Holy Motors, which allowed Leos Carax to join the three Best Directors of the Year and the film to rank as one of the year's three Best Foreign Films.
