It is very difficult to be both a lover and a thief. Rene is constrained to practice this altough it pleases him little, because his friend Carlone cannot do his share of the owing to an attack of rheumatism. So the young man is desolate at the idea of having to lift ten thousand lire from little Maria with whom he is in love. He has but one idea now, and that is to find a way of reimbursing her, or rather, giving her some way of finding the lost money. To this end, Rene tries several things but with no success. He manages to get hold of a valuable object while climbing in through a window of a neighbouring house where he has to pass himself as a angel to the child who saw him climbing in.
