Jan, a young prince, moves into a luxury seaside hotel out of season to study for his exams. Under the guidance of Mr. Bonze, his etiquette-obsessed tutor, the little prince gets bored. Though warned against it, he is drawn to the lighthouse at the end of the beach. Karol, the lighthouse keeper, is a curious old misanthrope who takes care of injured birds. The old man and the boy gradually tame each other. Karol opens Jan's eyes to the world of dreams and imagination by introducing him to a mysterious, timeless world of Taxandria.

But "Taxandria" is also, perhaps first and foremost, a clarion call for freedom of speech and tolerance !"
