The whole adventure was intimidating. A big film and a dream role written by Luc Besson, who keeps rehearsing you until you’ve made the grade. We were worn out from constantly straining to give of our best. I remember very clearly one day in Marseille. I arrived on set, I was called pretty late, and when I arrived I saw St. Charles Boulevard blocked off as far as La Cannebière, thousands of people everywhere, cops, cameras, cars, and in the cars, guys like Schlesser, Jabouille, Ragniotti, Julienne’s team of stuntmen, and suddenly it came to me: I thought “What movie am I in?” It hit me like a hammer. There’s no doubt there were a bunch of heavy-duty guys on this picture, some serious pros. Besson, Pirès, the stunt drivers... If Fred and I have measured up to what those guys did, well then, I’d say we’ve made a good film. (Samy Nacéri)
