Solange and her husband lead a quiet life in a provincial town. Mylene, Solange's childhood friend, who is now a TV weather girl, is in town to sign her book. They spend and evening together : dinner, a drink in a nightclub and a few confidences. When Mylene has gone back to Paris, Solange realises that life is passing her by. She has dreams of being a singer, she is in fact a traffic warden. Her costume is a uniform and her audience the drivers who insult her. Her existence suddenly seems very dull, her husband is too normal and her job too degrading. Is it too late to change her life ?
What happens to childhood dreams once you grow up? Do they vanish? No, that would make it too easy to forget the past. We only have one life, and no hour, no minute, no second that ticks by can ever be relived. So if youthful dreams still exist, how do we deal with them on an everyday basis? At what point do bitterness and regret stop us from moving ahead? It was on the basis of such questions that I constructed this film with Florence Vignon, co-writer and lead actress. Like Madame Bovary, the character of Solange Roualt, a traffic warden who always dreamed of being a singer, trails her boredom and regret through an oppressive daily life. She is faced with the choice of carrying on – just sinking deeper and disappearing – or dropping everything and pursuing her dream.
We wanted the film to be funny and poetic in its realism, reflecting all the beauty and all the silliness that life bring us – assuming, of course, we're honest enough to look it in the face.
