"A Soldier’s Daughter Never Cries" tells the story of an American family through the eyes of a little girl, Channe Willis, beginning in Paris in the late sixties. When Channe is seven years old, her parents adopt a young French boy of the same age. Her father, a well-known writer, decides to return to the United States when the children reach adolescence. The film focuses on the men in Channe’s life: her brother Billy, her best friend Francis and her ailing father. It evokes the life of American ex-pats in a country whose customs and way of life remain foreign to them, and who are like foreigners themselves as they head back to an America that is no longer familiar to them.
