Franck Spadone is a pickpocket. He works in a team with Bruno and Pablo. Efficient and meticulous in their work, their technique is simple and, like all pickpockets, they have a respect for protocol. But one day, Franck Spadone breaks one of the golden rules of his trade: he tries to get to know one of his victims, a young stripper by the name of Laura Lodolli. Franck is drawn to Laura like a magnet, but she is tied to Ferdinand, owner of the “Byzance” club. With the help of Laura and his other associates, Ferdinand conspires to murder Rhéline, the local Mafia boss, who is taking a hefty percentage of the profits of all nightlife activities of Paris’s ninth arrondissement. Franck finds himself caught up in Laura and Ferdinand’s plot. But pickpockets are not murderers. They steal, dodge trouble, live by their wits, but share a kind of symbolic pact that links them to the rest of the world: just a chameleon-like desire to disappear in order to exist. It is this unusual identity of the pickpocket that Frank Spadone, saddled with romantic confusion, brings face to face with the world of organized crime.
