Jimmy and Fifi, two buddies in the suburbs, think they’ve found a great way to save their bar from going bankrupt: turn it into a fashionable spot, a cool hangout for the Parisian jet set, that group used to having their photos in the ‘people’ pages of glossy magazines. To carry this off, they ask their pal, Mike, a good-looking, out-of-work actor, to infiltrate and gather contact details of the VIP (Very Important Parisian)…
A lot of laughs are sparked by this satirical, but not nasty, comedy where the director had the good idea of setting actors not really accustomed to comedy – like Samuel Le Bihan, Lambert Wilson and Aurore Clément – against explosive characters like José Garcia and Bruno Solo. No one seems afraid to appear silly, exaggerate traits, or push certain scenes to the limit. You get the feeling that everyone had an amusing time amusing us, so it doesn’t matter that the love story isn’t as strong as humor in this film, which may well be this director’s first hit.
