One morning, 10.00 am. In a suburban home, three men in their late thirties wait for buddy numero 4 to arrive.
They will then take a little trip down to the local bank where their partner-in-crime Séverine is waiting for them. It could be the start of a thriller, but unfortunately our friends possess all the talents of a gang of … bunglers.
No small wonder, then, that they’re masters of invention when it comes to getting themselves into a fix. Dreamers, yes, gangsters, never.
After my first film, “Méditerranées,” a tough, gritty, autobiographical drama, the next script I was given was a comedy story. To me, this screwball fantasy about a gang of wishful thinkers and their ill-gotten gains was pure escapism. The tender, poetic story of these overgrown kids will appeal to everyone who has known true friendships and is still a child at heart. For anyone else, tough! Though I didn’t write the film myself, I deeply identified with these buddies and their words and situations. “On fait comme on a dit” is an unpretentious bubble with a big smile on it. Say cheese!
