Set up immediately after the Liberation, children’s homes took in, from 1944 onwards, parentless children who’d been hiding in the French countryside, and, from 1945, child concentration camp survivors. In these places, thousands of children, including Elie Wiesel, slowly pieced their lives together.
Our film takes place between September 1944 and January 1946. In talking about learning how to feel hope and to live again after catastrophe and annihilation, the film not only speaks about the past but about the future. It’s a hymn to life and the joy of being alive.
