The film is a trilogy wherein the episodes concern the problem of women in wars, and takes its examples from fifteen centuries of history. "Lysistrata" is a free adaptation from Aristophanes by Henri Jeanson. he shows how the lovely Athenian woman fights for peace in striking against her love. "Joan of Arc" evokes a little known phase of the set one month before capture of joan at Compiègne and marks, as delanoy relates, her passage from warrior to saint. The "modern episode" takes place in Italy at the end of the last war. A young American woman comes to visit her husband's tomb in a small Italian village. She finds there that, tracked by the Germans, her husband had been hidden for several months by the young woman who meets her, and that her child is by her dead husband.
