The annual Rendez-vous with French Cinema in Rome will be held from April 17-21, 2013.
An event initiated by the French Embassy in Italy, the Rendez-vous is hosted by the French Institute in Italy in collaboration with the French Academy in Rome (Villa Medici), the French Institute-Saint-Louis Center, and uniFrance Films.
This festival gives Italian audiences the chance to discover the latest French productions, with the selection offering a mix of films from local distributors and French titles that have not yet found a buyer in Italy. The event is supported by all Italian distributors.
Large audiences turned out for the event held in two commercial theaters, the Quattro Fontane and the Casa del Cinema, with 7,500 spectators registered overall.
The Rendez-vous with French Cinema in Rome has now moved into high gear, this year attracting the presence of numerous French actors and directors who traveled to Rome to present their films to local audiences and the media. The artists present included Anouk Aimée, Carole Bouquet, Jean-Paul Rouve, Zabou Breitman, Costa Gavras, Laurent Cantet, François Ozon, Hélène Fillières, and Jacques Doillon.
This year's guest director was Laurent Cantet, with a master class held in his honor and a retrospective of his films held as part of the festival.
In light of this event's increasingly high profile in Italy, films from its selection were also screened in Palermo, Bologna, Turin, and Milan.
