UniFrance hosts Emergence Cinéma workshop

Over four days, UniFrance welcomed writers participating in the Atelier Séries organized by Emergence, demonstrating once again the increasingly porous boundaries between the big screen and small screen.

From March 12 through 15, UniFrance had the pleasure of welcoming young talents of French cinema in its Paris offices for a workshop focused on writing specifically for series. Proposed by Emergence, the Atelier Séries is aimed at writers who want to broaden their knowledge and practice of series writing. This training course combines analysis of the sector, theoretical and technical input, professional meetings, and writing workshops. In particular, it allows participants to improve their skills and to acquire the specifc ability to write on commission, integrate the rules of an existing series, develop a gallery of characters, structure an episode and a season, pitch a series concept, and understand market challenges.

Participants were hence able to meet established series creation professionals in France and Europe, specialists in development, writing, and production of—notably including representatives from the Arte, Canal+, France2, and OCS networks.

While the workshop brought together such established talents as Farid Bentoumi (Good Luck SamBurners), and  Annarita Zambrano (After the War), we'd also like to note the presence of the up-and-coming directors Cristèle Alves Meira (Campo de víboras [Champ de vipères]), Cannes, 2016), Keren Marciano (倒錯した若い女性の追憶, Sacramento, 2011), and Anne-Claire Jaulin (No Matter Who). The diversity of the participants and the enthusiasm for this kind of training further confirms the prestige that series writing now enjoys.
