Belgium: awards at the Namur Film Festival
The 19th Namur International Francophone Film Festival closed on Friday, October 1st, 2004, with the presentation of the Bayard d’Or awards, in the presence of numerous guests including Jeanne Labrune, Cécile de France, Benoît Mariage, Romain Goupil, Yolande Moreau and Rachida Brakni.
The awards ceremony was followed by a preview screening of the French film, “Cause toujours!” by Jeanne Labrune.
Serving as a highly effective platform for meetings and new discoveries, the Namur Festival presented 132 films and offered around a dozen professional meetings, with over 400 festival guests and 320 journalists attending the event.
Cécile de France presented the Special Jury Prize to Ismaël Ferroukhi for his film “Le Grand Voyage,” which also won the Bayard d’Or for Best First Film and the Junior Jury Prize.
The actor Didier Bezace presented Yolande Moreau with the Bayard d’Or for Best Actress for her performance in “Quand la mer monte...,” which she co-directed with Gilles Porte. Her co-star in the film, Wim Willaert, was also honored with a Bayard d’Or for Best Actor. “Dans les champs de bataille” (“In the Battlefields”) by Danielle Arbid received the Bayard d’Or for Best Screenplay. Benoît Mariage presented the award to the film’s leading actress, Rawia El Chab. The Bayard d’Or for Best Short Film went to “Cousines” by Lyes Salem.
A Special Mention was given to the film “Le Principe du Canapé” by Mike Guermyet and Samuel Hercule.
The Junior Jury gave a Special Mention to “A Common Thread” by Éléonore Faucher.
The Ciné & FX Prize aimed at promoting New Film Technology in Wallonia, particularly for the treatment of images, was awarded to “Calvaire” (“The Ordeal”) by Fabrice du Welz.
The 20th Namur International Francophone Film Festival will be held from September 23 through 30, 2005.
