The prestigious American film festival officially came to a close with its awards ceremony held Saturday, January 25, 2014. Two French films picked up prizes this year.
This year marked the 30th anniversary of the world’s biggest independent film festival, which was founded by Robert Redford in the small and often snow-covered town of Park City, Utah.
While the festival makes a distinction between American productions and those from the rest of the world (showcased in the World Cinema section), it is no easy feat to win a place on the awards ceremony podium. This year, two French films managed to do just that, bringing a French flavor to the awards list:
Happiness by Thomas Balmes and Nina Bernfeld (photo): Best Cinematography, World Cinema Documentary
We Come as Friends by Hubert Sauper (Franco-Austrian co-production): Special Jury Award for Cinematic Bravery, World Cinema Documentary
The complete awards list can found at the Sundance Film Festival’s official website.
