Rendez-Vous with French Cinema hands the mic over to women filmmakers
During International Women's Day, Julie Gayet will be present at the screening of Cinéast(e)s, which she co-directed with Mathieu Busson.
On Saturday March 8, 2014, the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) will host a gala evening called "Action! French and American Women Directors" held as part of the 19th edition of the ニューヨーク ランデブー・今日のフランス映画 organized by UniFrance Films. The screening of the documentary Cinéast(e)s will be followed by a discussion about the question of genre in cinema in the presence of Julie Gayet, Katell Quillévéré, Axelle Ropert, Justine Triet, and Rebecca Zlotowski. American filmmakers Ry Russo-Young, the director of Nobody Walks co-written by Lena Dunham and selected for Sundance in 2012, Stacie Passon, winner of the Teddy Jury Award at the 2013 Berlinale for her film Breathe, and Deborah Kampmeier, director of Hounddog, have also been invited to join in the discussion.
During this gala, 14 millions de cris, a short film directed and produced by Lisa Azuelos, will also be presented. The film, which denounces the practice of forced marriage of underage girls, stars Alexandre Astier, Julie Gayet, and Adèle Gasparov.
The event has been organized by the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), New York Women in Film and Television (NYWIFT), and UniFrance Films.
