In addition to Paul Verhoeven's film Elle, which has been selected as France's submission in the Best Foreign-Language Film category at the Oscars, 16 other French co-productions (including majority-French productions) have been chosen as the official entry from their country of linguistic origin.
Sixteen French co-productions (not including Paul Verhoeven's film) feature among the 85 films officially submitted to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

- イタリア: Fire at Sea by Gianfranco Rosi (minority co-production)
- Jordan: 3000 Nights by Mai Masri (minority co-production)
- メキシコ: Desierto by Alfonso Cuarón (minority co-production)
- Nepal: The Black Hen by Min Bahadur Bham (minority co-production)
- ルーマニア: Sieranevada by Cristi Puiu (minority co-production)
- シンガポール: Apprentice by Boo Junfeng (minority co-production)
- スイス: My Life as a Courgette by Claude Barras (minority co-production)
- Yemen: I Am Nojoom, Age 10 and Divorced by Khadija Al-Salami (minority co-production)
A list of nine finalists will be announced in December, after which the five official nominees will be revealed on January 24th, in the lead-up to the 89th Academy Awards ceremony to be held at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on February 26, 2017.
