French animated films in the spotlight at the Bucheon International Animation Festival
As part of the Year of France-大韓民国 collaboration, the Bucheon International Animation Festival (to be held October 21-25) is honoring French productions this year.
A total of five feature-length animated films—including titles acclaimed at Cannes this year, My Life as a Courgette and The Girl Without Hands—and 51 short films produced by France will be presented at the event, showcasing the richness and diversity of the French animated film sector at this time.
The festival will also feature a selection of graduation films along with a special program that pays tribute to three of the key players in the world of French animated film production: Je Suis Bien Content, Sacrebleu Productions, and Folimage. This selection will notably include films that have already earned cult status, such as Tram, The Sense of Touch, and 日曜の昼食. The producers Ron Dyens and Marc Jousset will travel to Korea to take part in the event and will also lead master classes.
Now in its 18th year, the BIAF celebrates the work of the poet Jacques Prévert in 2016, with a presentation of short films inspired by his writings. There will also a retrospective of films by Sylvain Chomet, offering audiences the chance to discover the world of Les Triplettes de Belleville / ベルヴィル・ランデブー.
And finally, the festival will show award-winning films from the 2016 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, featuring three French titles: Peripheria, The Head Vanishes, and The Reflection of Power.
