17th Festival of Animated Film screened across the globe!
Throughout the month of October, the Festival of Animated Film will liven up screens all over the world. An opportunity for spectators to discover, or rediscover, a large number of iconic French animated productions.
An event that was founded in 2002 with the goal of raising the profile of French films "frame by frame" and to contribute to the promotion of films and filmmakers, the Festival of Animated Film is holding its 17th edition from October 1 through 31, 2018, all over France and in many countries around the world. Thanks to the Institut Français, this festival is held annually at sites affiliated with the Institute's cultural network abroad. From Brazil to Estonia, Cambodia to Tunisia, Italy to Malaysia, not to mention Oman, Nigeria, and Indonesia, among other countries, around 100,000 spectators will have the chance to discover the many facets of animated cinema in a series of screenings, exhibitions, meetings, conferences, and workshops.
As well as showcasing classics like Persépolis / ペルセポリス and Les Triplettes de Belleville / ベルヴィル・ランデブー, the festival will offer the opportunity to see some more personal works, such as Approved for Adoption and The Painting. Preview screenings will also be held of two films that attracted acclaim at Annecy this year, Funan and Dilili in Paris.
Short films are also on the menu. With screenings of 吠える島 (Palme d'Or at Cannes in 2010), Mr Hublot (Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 2014), モンパルナスのキキ (César Award for Best Short Animated Film in 2014), it's a little like seeing the crème de crème of French animation of recent years.
And finally, this 17th edition of the event will present special film programs concocted by the production companies Folimage and Autour de Minuit, whose reputation already extends far beyond our borders.
The complete program is available here.
