9th Rendez-Vous with New French Cinema in Rome

The 9th Rendez-Vous with New French Cinema in Rome will take place in the Italian capital from April 3 through 9 at the Nuovo Cinema Sacher owned by Nanni Moretti, before traveling to six major cities around the country. Laetitia Casta and Louis Garrel are among around twelve French artists who will attend the festival.

An event initiated by the French Embassy in Italy, this festival is organized by the Institut Français in Italy in collaboration with UniFrance.

As is the case each year, this encounter with the different faces of contemporary French cinema will begin in Rome, before heading on a tour of six cities—Naples, Palermo, Bologna, Turin, Florence, and Milan.

The festival program in Rome, presented at two different locations (the Cinema Nuovo Sacher and the Institut Français - Centre Saint-Louis), will give audiences the chance to explore recent French filmmaking in all its diversity, ranging from art house films to mainstream popular movies. This year's lineup places a special focus on social realities, shown through the prism of comedy. This is particularly the case for the festival's opening film, Invisibles.

The artistic delegation will include Louis Garrel, Laetitia Casta, Alexandre Desplat, Jacques Audiard, Cédric Kahn, Louis-Julien Petit, Alexis Michalik, Antonin Baudry, Jeanne Herry, and Mikhaël Hers.

In addition to screenings that will allow audiences in Rome to take part in Q&As with the French actors and directors present, two master classes will be organized—one led by the composer Alexandre Desplat and the musician Solrey on Thursday, April 4, at the Palazzo Farnese, and the other led by Jacques Audiard on Monday, April 8, at the Cinema Nuovo Sacher.

Laetitia Casta and Louis Garrel will then travel to Milan, while Cédric Kahn will head to Palermo, to accompany the continuation of the event beyond Rome.

Finally, the festival once again offers online access this year for viewers in Italy thanks to the VOD platform MyMovies.it.
