New selection committee to choose the French submission for Best International Feature Film Oscar
This year, the committee will include the directors Pierre Salvadori and Danièle Thompson, producers Jean Bréhat and Rosalie Varda, and sales agents Muriel Sauzay and Agathe Valentin. Thierry Frémaux (director of the Cannes Film Festival), Alain Terzian (president of the César Awards Academy), and Serge Toubiana (president of UniFrance) will serve as ex officio members of the committee.
Until now composed of seven members (two ex officio members, including the president of UniFrance, and five movie industry professionals), this committee will now be expanded to include nine members: six movie industry professionals (two directors, two producers, and two sales agents), to be designated each year by the French Minister for Culture on the basis of a proposal made by the CNC, and three ex officio members (the director of the Cannes Film Festival, the president of the César Awards Academy, and the president of UniFrance).
The first committee meeting will be held on September 12 at the offices of the CNC, at which an initial short list of between three and five films will be compiled prior to a meeting with the producers and sales companies handling the pre-selected films. The final submission will be selected at the close of these two meetings.
The 2020 Oscars ceremony will take place on February 9, 2020. It is important to note that the award that was formerly named the Academy Award for Best Foreign-Language Film is now known as the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
