Patrice Chéreau's film has won the Golden Bear, and its female lead, Kerry Fox, has picked up the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 51st Berlinale (02/19/01).
"Intimacy" was the big winner this year at Berlin. The Jury, presided by Bill Mechanic, awarded the festival's top prize to this new opus by French director Patrice Chéreau, an English-language film shot in London. The film's star, Kerry Fox, won the Silver Bear for Best Actress. Based on a short story by Hanif Kureishi, "Intimacy" also picked up the Blue Angel Award for the Best European Film. The film was produced by Charles Gassot (Téléma), and is sold internationally by StudioCanal. It is slated for release in France on March 28 (handled by Bac distribution).
The Silver Bear – Jury Grand Prize went to a French-Chinese coproduction, "Beijing Bicycle" by Wang Xiaoshuai, produced by Pyramide Productions (Fabienne Vonier) along with Peggy Chiao (Arc Light Films). "A ma sœur", by Catherine Breillat (Flach Films, Jean-François Lepetit) won the Manfred Salzgeber Prize. The sale of these two films is handled by Flach Pyramide International (Eric Lagesse).
