After winning the Golden Bear at the Berlin Festival, "Intimacy" has got off to a flying start in German theaters. Released by Prokino in 63 copies, the film has pulled in over 50,000 spectators in its opening weekend.
Patrice Chéreau has positively won over German audiences. On the strength of its triumph at the Berlin International Film festival this year, where it picked up the Golden Bear award for Best Film, the French director's latest film has attracted 50,215 moviegoers after 4 days on the screens. With a healthy 63 prints in circulation, the film jumped straight to 5th place at the German box office, surrounded by American blockbusters graced with at least 250 prints. "Intimacy" is certainly making its mark, with an average of 797 spectators recorded per print released, coming in behind "Pearl Harbor" and its 1,024 spectators per print.
"Intimacy" is distributed by Prokino, which will also handle the release of "Amelie from Montmartre", slated for August 16 (German title: "Die Fabelhafte Welt der Amelie").
