"Time Out" and "Deep Breath" scoop Venice awards
Laurent Cantet was awarded the Golden Lion and Damien Odoul the Grand Jury Prize (ex æquo) in the Cinema of the Present section at the Venice Film Festival. France was a strong presence on the awards list of the 58th Venice Film Festival’s newly established Cinema of the Present section which focuses on young or new directors. Laurent Cantet’s second film “Time Out,” starring Karin Viard and Aurélian Recoing, reaped the section’s Golden Lion. The film will be released in France on November 14, 2001 by Haut et Court – the company also produced the film. “Deep Breath” by Damien Odoul, produced by Morgane Productions, was awarded the section’s Grand Jury Prize (shared with “Seafood” by Zhu Wen) and the FRIPESCI Prize. With regards to the Official Competition Section, the FRIPESCI jury rewarded Philippe Garrel’s “Wild Innocence” as its top film.
