Cannes: films of the day
The last remaining French production, "L'Adversaire," will close the Official Selection of the 55th Cannes Festival.
"L'Adversaire" by Nicole Garcia (Grand Théâtre Lumière, 8.30 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.)
Jury member in 2000, Nicole Garcia returns to the Croisette to present a film for the first time as a director. Inspired by the novel by Emmanuel Carrère, "L’Adversaire" takes up the theme of Laurent Cantet's film "Time Out," released last November: the Romand Affair. In 1993, Jean-Claude Romand murdered his wife, his children and his parents before attempting to take his own life. What led him to do it? This is the crux of the film produced by Alain Sarde and distributed by Bac Distribution. This will be one of the most eagerly awaited appearances of the festival, as we will see the director accompanied by her cast – Daniel Auteuil, Géraldine Pailhas, Emmanuelle Devos and François Cluzet – walking up those famous steps today.
A restored print of "L’ Auberge Rouge" ("The Red Inn") by Claude Autant-Lara (1951) will be presented at the Salle Buñuel at 7.30 p.m.
