5th Rendez-vous with French Cinema
500 European and Latin American professionals are expected in Paris January 17 through 21, 2003.
From January 17 through 21, 2003, Unifrance will welcome the major buyers of French films (theatrical distributors and television buyers) and movie journalists from Europe, Quebec and, for the first time this year, from Latin America. 500 professionals are expected to attend this 5th Rendez-vous with French Cinema.
The January Rendez-vous has rapidly become a key event in the French movie industry calendar. The number of participants continues to grow each year, with 350 distributors and television buyers (from 30 countries) and 140 journalists (from 28 countries) in Paris from January 17 this year. In 2002, the number of participants was 240 and 120 respectively.
This year's event will follow the same principle as in previous years:
A Film Market: The market will be held in four private screening theaters around the Champs Elysées, and will kick off Friday January 17 in the early afternoon at the Elysées-Biarritz. The market's program comprises 34 French films that have never previously been screened at an international market and 20 recent French films (screened only at MIFED). The 54 films will be presented in original version subtitled in English.
Meetings with the Press: These meetings will be held at the Park Hyatt Hotel, and will provide an opportunity for European and Latin American journalists to interview directors and actors from French films slated for release in their respective countries in the first six months of 2003.
Among the highlights of this 5th Rendez-vous, it is worth mentioning that, once again this year, French authorities will be demonstrating their interest in the event, with the European and Latin American delegation to be received by France's Prime Minister, Jean-Pierre Raffarin, Monday January 20.
Finally, foreign buyers will have the opportunity for discussions with French producers during a meeting to be held Sunday January 19.
