Elections were held at the Council of Feature Film Producers Wednesday, March 26.br>
Wednesday, March 26, 2003, representatives from Unifrance’s Council of Feature Film Producers elected Margaret Menegoz, Humbert Balsan and Michel Propper
to replace Christine Gouze-Rénal and Daniel Toscan du Plantier, both deceased, and Denis Freyd, who has resigned, to the Board of Directors.
The 6 producers now elected to the Board of Directors are:
- Humbert Balsan
- Philippe Carcassonne
- Jean-Claude Fleury
- Marie Masmonteil
- Margaret Menegoz
- Michel Propper
In accordance with Unifrance’s regulations, the Board of Directors will elect one of these 6 elected producers as President of the association. The President will then take up the position currently assured in a shared capacity by the Management Committee since the death of former President Daniel Toscan du Plantier on February 11, 2003.
At a general meeting held March 13, the Unifrance Management Committee made the unanimous decision not to elect a new President before the Cannes Film Festival, during which a tribute will be paid to producer Daniel Toscan du Plantier who presided over Unifrance since 1988. It was also unanimously decided to adhere to Unifrance’s regulations that stipulate that the association’s President must be elected from among the producers elected to the Board of Directors. As a result, the person elected President will therefore be one of the 6 names mentioned above. The President’s mandate will end in June 2004, the date, in accordance with Unifrance’s regulations, scheduled for the election of a new Board of Directors and a new President, which is held every two years.
Jean-Jacques Aillagon, France’s Minister of Culture and Communication, has given his wholehearted support to the Unifrance Management Committee, offering his congratulations for the way in which it has handled the changeover since Daniel Toscan du Plantier’s unexpected demise, while preserving the spirit and cohesion of this professional organization.
