13,500 spectators flocked to Cinepolis theaters in Mexico City, making this event organized by Unifrance and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all-out success.
The decision to bring the timing of this French Film Festival closer to the French Film Tour (an event that presents French films in 50 Mexican cities until December) proved a wise calculation, with both events benefiting from added exposure. Mexican television and radio devoted several direct broadcasts to the Festival, and close to 200 interviews were held with representatives from all media.
We would like to thank Salomé Blechmans, Marilyne Canto, Sophie Cattani, Dani, Nicole Garcia, Julie Lopes-Curval, Roxane Mesquida, Joana Preiss, Danièle Thompson, Charles Belmont, Kim Chapiron, Thomas de Thier, Thierry Piantanida, and Steve Suissa, who accepted Unifrance’s invitation to participate in the event in Mexico City.
Results for French films in this territory are currently on the rise, up from 2.2 million admissions in 2003 to over 3 million admissions in 2005. 2006 shows promise for fine results, with French films already attracting almost 3 million spectators in eight months.
France has succeeded in maintaining its position as number 2 foreign film supplier in this market (behind American films) thanks to committed efforts in support of French films in the territory, as is the case in other countries around the world.
