“Azur & Asmar” in Canada
“Azur & Asmar” by Michel Ocelot wins two awards at the Abitibi-Témiscamingue Festival of International Cinema (Canada).
Over 20,000 movie buffs flocked the screenings at the 25th Abitibi-Témiscamingue Festival of International Cinema, held from October 28 through November 2, 2006.
At the event, the director Philippe Falardeau presented his feature film "Congorama" to enthusiastic audiences.
Jury members Michel Defoy, Guy Marchessault, and Gisèle Maheux awarded the Communications and Society Prize to Michel Ocelot, director of the animated film “Azur & Asmar.” The jury honored the film for its “refreshing perspective on dialogue between human beings of different races, languages, religions, and cultures.” After the screening of “Azur & Asmar” the entire theater, with an audience mainly composed of children, burst into warm applause for the French director, who was present at the screening.
“Azur & Asmar” also picked up the Radio Nord Communications Animated Prize.
