Organized by the CNC, Unifrance, and the Algerian Culture Ministry, these Film Meetings will provide an opportunity to assess the current situation for film production and distribution in France and Algeria and to present a new Co-Production Agreement that was signed by both countries in December 2007 on the occasion of a visit by the French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Algeria.
Véronique Cayla, General Director of the CNC, will open these Film Meetings in the presence of a representative of the Algerian Culture Minister.
During the three-day event, thematic workshops will give movie industry professionals the chance to work together on a number of key topics:
• Film production and the benefits of the new Agreement for the development of co-productions.
• Safeguarding and raising the profile of archives, in collaboration with the CNC Film Archives.
• Distribution, exhibition, and other forms of circulating film material in Algeria, where only around a dozen cinemas offer facilities that meet current industry standards.
• Training issues, which are vital for the future progress and development of Algerian film production.
The event’s program will be completed by special screenings of the following films: Musée haut musée bas (in the presence of the film’s director, Jean-Michel Ribes), Mascarades (Masquerades) by Lyès Salem, and La Maison Jaune by Amor Hakkar.
