The Sitges International Film Festival of Catalonia, specializing in fantasy and horror films, has announced awards for the 36th edition of the festival (November 27 - December 7, 2003).
"Switchblade Romance" by Alexandre Aja has stolen the spotlight, winning an impressive four awards at the event: Best Actress for Cécile de France, Best Makeup and the Silver Méliès for the Best European Fantasy Film.
"The Time of the Wolf" by Michael Haneke picked up the Best Screenplay award and the Jose Luis Guarner Prize awarded by Catalonian critics. Bruno Dumont also won a Special Mention for his film "Twentynine Palms."
Hopes are high that "Switchblade Romance" will follow in the triumphant footsteps of "Vidocq," which was highly acclaimed at Sitges and went on to attract 587,000 spectators in Spain.
