11th Festa do Cinema Francês in Portugal
From October 7 through November 9, 2010, French cinema will be celebrated in Portugal.
An exceptional program is planned for this year's リスボン フランス映画祭: more than one hundred screenings throughout the country, concerts, workshops, discussions, and numerous encounters will be organized in Lisbon, Almada, Porto, Guimarães, Faro, and Coimbra.
During more than a month, twenty feature films will be presented to the public in premiere screenings. Ranging from first works by emerging filmmakers to masterpieces by established directors, the Festa do Cinema Francês allows local audiences to discover the best of the year's film production in all its diversity. Among the films with premiere screenings, spectators will choose their favorite to receive the Audience Award and thereby boost its distribution in theaters in Portugal. Festinha screenings will also allow younger audiences to discover, with their families or during school sessions, a selection of the year's animated films.
This year, the festival will have the pleasure of welcoming more than thirty artists, among whom Alexeï Guskov (The Concert by Radu Mihaileanu), Caroline Bottaro (Joueuse), Louis-Do de Lencquesaing (Father of My Children by Mia Hansen-LØve), Pascal Chaumeil (Heartbreaker), Jean Becker (La tête en friche), Julie Lopes Curvall (Hidden Diary), Hippolyte Girardot (Yuki & Nina), Louis-Ronan Choisy and Melvil Poupaud (The Refuge by François Ozon), and Renaud Barret and Florent de la Tullaye (Benda Bilili!).
The 11th edition will be studded with major events.
For the first time, the Festa do Cinema Francês will have a 'patron': the magnificent actress, Sandrine Bonnaire, will come to present the films that have most marked her career.
The Festa do Cinema Francês will pay tribute to one of French cinema's most renowned figures, André Téchiné. For the first time in Portugal, a retrospective encompassing the entire body of the filmmaker's work will be presented at the Cinemateca Portugues.
For the second consecutive year within the context of the festival, On Set with French Cinema, organized by Unifrance, will allow Portuguese film students to share their passion for cinema and to discover the worlds of André Téchiné and Sandrine Bonnaire. These two personalities will go to the Lisbon Film School (ESTC) to talk about their careers and share their experiences making films such as Scene of the Crime by André Téchiné, and Vagabond by Agnès Varda.
We will also have the pleasure of celebrating the great return of Pierre Etaix to the movie screen. Through a complete retrospective of his recently restored films, spectators will be able to discover the burlesque world of this extraordinary artist and close collaborator of Jacques Tati. One of the most prestigious international short film festivals, the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, will also be present this year with a selection of exceptional films that have been awarded prizes in its various editions.
Initiated in 2000, over the years, the Festa do Cinema Francês has become an unmissable event on Portugal's cultural calendar. After registering record admissions in 2009 (almost 30,000 spectators), we hope to attract even greater crowds this year to celebrate French cinema!
The Festa do Cinema Francês is organized by the Ambassade de France in Portugal and the Institut Franco-Portugais, with the support of Unifrance.
