The European Film Academy unveils its selection
France will be represented by the productions Of Gods and Men, The Ghost Writer, Carlos, and the actress Sylvie Testud at the European Film Awards, to be held December 4 in Tallinn, Estonia.
The European Film Academy's list of films recommended for nomination at the 2010 European Film Awards includes Of Gods and Men by Xavier Beauvois and two French co-productions, The Ghost Writer and Lebanon.
Among competitors for the Best European Director award are Roman Polanski for The Ghost Writer and Olivier Assayas for Carlos.
Other artists announced as potential nominees include Sylvie Testud in the Best Actress category for Lourdes by Jessica Hausner, Radu Mihaileanu in the Best Screenplay category for The Concert, and Caroline Champetier in the Best Cinematographer category for Of Gods and Men.
Three French film editors have also been selected: Luc Barnier and Marion Monnier for Carlos, and Hervé de Luze for The Ghost Writer. Alexandre Desplat has also been selected in the Best European Composer category for his work on The Ghost Writer.
The Ghost Writer takes the lead among French films selected, featuring in seven categories including Best Actor for Ewan McGregor, Best Screenwriter for Robert Harris and Roman Polanski, and Best Production Design for Albrecht Konrad. It is followed by Lebanon, which is selected in five categories, including Best Screenplay for Samuel Maoz, Best Cinematographer for Giora Bejach, and Best Editor for Arik Lahav-Leibovich.
