A reminder of Unifrance Automatic Aid procedures
Automatic Aid is exclusively available to films that have been granted a censor's certificate from the CNC and are produced by companies that are members of Unifrance.
Automatic Aid is exclusively available to films that have been granted a censor's certificate from the CNC and are made by production companies that are members of Unifrance.
All films presented to the Unifrance Commission, whether or not they have been refused Selective Aid, may be eligible for Automatic Aid (provided that a request has been lodged by the producer within two years following the date of attribution of the CNC censor’s certificate). Films must also have been selected at six foreign festivals, three of which must be competitive events. These selections may be at events supported by Unifrance or events with which Unifrance is not a partner. In the latter case, written proof of selection at these events must be provided.
Furthermore, automatic subtitling aid is granted to films selected in official competitions at the following festivals: Cannes (all festival sections), Locarno (Leopards of Tomorrow section), Venice, Berlin, Rotterdam, and Sundance.
Commercial broadcast of films abroad may also be taken into consideration. All commercial broadcasts are eligible for consideration (at a minimum rate of €20 per minute), justified by a valid contract or statement of sales from the distributor.
To sum up, films may be eligible for Automatic Aid by combining selections at festivals and film sales. The eligibility criteria are defined as follows:
1. 6 selections at film festivals, including 3 competitive events
2. 3 selections at film festivals, including 1 competitive event, and 2 film sales abroad
3. 3 sales abroad (only video expenses are considered in this case)
