10th uniFrance Short Film Award
UniFrance Films will announce the winners of the 2012 Short Film Award at 6 p.m. May 24, 2012, at Club uniFrance in Cannes.
The Grand Prize will be presented to 505g by Jérémy Azencott, starring Eva Minko, Jérémy Azencott, and Audrey Legrand, produced by Charles Paviot (Arts Premiers) and Jérémy Azencott. Included in the official programming at the festivals of Tübingen-Stuttgart (Germany), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and Moncton (Canada), the film will be acquired and distributed by Be TV (Belgium), Canal+ (Spain), Canal+ (Poland), and RTP2 Onda Curta (Portugal). This 10-minute drama recounts the story of a cocaine deal during which Thomas falls for Carmen, his supplier's half-sister, who comes home unexpectedly and is unaware of her brother's drug-dealing activities.
The Special Prize will be awarded to Elvis of Nazareth by Rani Massalha, produced by Antoine de Clermont-Tonnerre (Mact Productions) and Ehab Assai (Yellow Dawn Production). It will be distributed by RTP2 Onda Curta. This film centers on Hamoudy, a beggar in Nazareth, and Khalil, an aging street singer and fan of Elvis Presley, who claims that his musical instrument, an oud, was given to him by the King.
The jury gathered earlier this year, on March 30, in Paris to vote on the 25 films selected by members of the uniFrance Films Short Film Committee. Jury members were Gilles Reunis (Be TV Belgium), Guadalupe Arensburg (Canal+ Spain), Urszula Skassa (Canal+ Poland), and João Garção Borges (RTP2 Onda Curta Portugal).
