When his mother dies, Martin, 12, leaves France for Africa to live with his father whom he doesn't know. The latter, head of a game reserve, welcomes him coldly. He seems more concerned by the unexplained absence of elephants from the reserve than by his son's arrival. With Fofana and Victor, his new friends, Martin discovers African life and partakes in a great adventure that leads him to a reconciliation with his father.

"Black Africa has been exploited mercilessly to relinquish its secrets to the whims of the big screen. Today's African film festivals and directors have cast aside the clichés to give it a new identity. Patrick Grandperret tackles this with the sensibility of a white man in love with Africa and so makes it even more familiar to us. (...) He returns Africa to its open spaces, its contradictions, its mysteries, leaving the audience to discover its differences like a child. The sobriety of Jacques Dutronc is in tune with Patrick Grandperret's modesty : both men let Africa come to the fore."
