Benoît Régent made his stage début in 1970 in Claudel's "Tête d'or", directed by Denis Llorca. He worked solely on the stage for about ten years, with a preference for the classical repertoire. He appeared in "Oedipe Rex" and "Le Misanthrope", directed by Jean-Paul Roussillon and "Othello", directed by Hans-Peter Cloos, the most remarkable of more than twenty roles. He made his screen début in 1982 without turning back on the stage. He met with equal success on stage, in films or on television. His sudden death put an end to a rich and surprising career (Krzystof Kieslowski's "Blue", Jacques Doillon's "Germaine et Benjamin"...) just as cinema was finally giving him roles worthy of his talent.
