The movie theatre was one of the most important scenes of social life, encounters and seduction. The place where people lived their lives, where they could also sleep and eat, not only during the intermission. Everyone went to the movies. Once you were in your seat, you could feel rich since everyone was equal. The movie theatre was the "home" where you could do everything that wasn't allowed in the street. You could kiss girls and make love. Men would meet women, women men, men men, women... In short, a sort of earthly paradise where everything was possible, even dreams. (Marco Ferreri)

About
"The movie theatre was a factory that built up the collective imagination. A catalyst for fantasy. Fantastic journeys and unknown lands, different worlds, better or worse: all that for a few pennies and, once you were sitting, or standing in the shadows, in a lover's arms, everything would seem more beautiful. The very names of the theatres set you dreaming: they were all called "Palace", "Empire", "Eldorado", "Olympia", "Eden". The movie theatres meant luxury and comfort. They were designed on a monumental scale. The vast, enormous setting, with its stucco and lights, became a glorious, luxurious, spacious and exotic living room for people who at times lived twelve to a room. They could stay there all day long. It was warm there when it was cold outside and cool on hot days. (...). The stars of the silver screen became role models, masters, examples. People dressed and did their hair like them. The audience learnt how to kiss, how to steal from stores, how to drink and smoke, everything in fact." (Marco Ferreri)
